Groenkloof was the proud host of our annual UBC on the 8th of March, and what a fantastic day it turned out to be! With 12 teams battling it out in two round-robin sections (five matches each) followed by two knock-out round, the competition was fierce, the bowls were rolling, and the friendly rivalries were in full swing.
After seven intense rounds, we ended up with three teams tied on 10 points each (five wins and two losses each). It was a nail-biting finish, with the ultimate victors being decided on aggregates—because who doesn’t love a bit of math at a lawn bowls tournament?

Fueling the Fun
A huge thank you to Jaan’s family team for keeping us well-fed and hydrated throughout the day. With tea, drinks, and a delicious lunch on offer, no one had an excuse for blaming their performance on an empty stomach.
A Tournament to Remember
The event was a resounding success, with plenty of great shots, near misses, and enough friendly banter to last us until the next tournament. We’re thrilled with the turnout and the enthusiasm from all players and supporters.
Given how much fun was had (and how competitive things got), Groenkloof is committed to making this an annual highlight on our club’s calendar. So, if you missed out this year, start practicing—because next time, the trophy could have your name on it!
